Rough Ridge DK is a soft woollen spun yarn that is a blend of 80% Merino-cross wool and 20% natural coloured Polwarth. Polwarth is a ¾ merino sheep so the wool is very compatible with the merino cross wool we use for our yarns. The coloured wool has been randomly distributed through the product while being carded, hence the variation of colour (and weight) throughout the skein. We suggest that garments with simple shapes without seams are best for this yarn, allowing the variations of colour to be displayed.
This yarn comes in 240m skeins which vary in weight from just over 100g up to 135g. If you wish to purchase a garment lot we will ensure that we send you skeins that are about the same weight. The lighter weights knit up like a standard DK or light worsted weight on 4mm or 4.5mm needles. The heavier skeins will knit up like an Aran style yarn on larger than 5mm needles. The weight of the skein will be handwritten on your label, so save the label.
The yarn has a three-ply construction and a beautiful heathered finish. When knitted, the fabric is lightweight and cosy. Already soft, it softens further with gentle washing.
The natural undyed yarn is available here on our website. Rough Ridge is magnificent when overdyed, and the heathered look can be seen through a light dye. Overdyed yarn may be offered via the website in the future.
